Weekend Exposure - Decorative Grass...

This time of year, between autumn leaving and snow falling, the beauty of the seasons has turned to that drab gray with some sunny days.  The grass that I planted several years ago has finally come into it's time of beauty so I've played with some shots of them.

1) Changed the temperature. My sister wants this one for her wall.

2) Before full bloom

3) Playing with temps, tints.

4) Almost there

5) Untouched

6) Full bloom

7) Taken in November

8) Also taken in November

9) Untouched

10) Blue sky

11) Ghost in her Snuggle Sack with her teddy bear

I know there's nothing exciting about grass, but when you plant it and wait for years for it mature, it becomes a special little accomplishment, especially when I can't keep a plant alive in the house :) All critiques are welcome.

Dare - there is something special about it. I love the plumes and how they look and feel especially the silky ones. You took some wonderful pictures of it. I like all of them but especially the three plumes before your kitty.

Your kitty is very special too.

Thanks Soov, it's been fun to track them over this summer since they finally became decorative, they were lucky they lived thru the drought. I like the three plumes too, all I did was crop it.

The kitty is a sweet hellion right now, don't let the looks fool you :)

Really beautiful shots, DTH! That first one is gorgeous but I love all of them, processed and unprocessed. You've brought out the beauty of these grasses. And Ghost is adorable; that is a cool shot!

You can also cut and dry Pampas Grass to keep as decorations, good Shots.

Thanks Fletch. I'm not the creative sort when it comes to decorations but I'll keep it in mind.

I'll second that. I wouldn't have thought of them as decorations until the first time I saw them. They looked cool.

Nice shots, DTH. I like #7 and #9 the best. The contrast in #7 is very nice. The foreground is a tiny bit blurred. The clarity in #9 is very good. From certain angles of my computer monitor, the background looks almost black thereby bringing out the details of the foreground even more.

Thanks jobs. I think if I would have gotten lower shooting higher and centered the plumes in the yellow it would have turned out better, I just couldn't get what I wanted out of that shot :(

I'm going to have to walk around my monitor now and see if I get the same affect, lol.

I've given thought to the plumes as decoration and decided anything the cats would find fascinating.......I'll leave outside ;)

With a digital camera, you should just takes as many shots you want from as many angles. Sometimes, it's also worth it to go back to the same spot if the subject is still there. Of course, sometimes you don't always see what you want until you are looking at the photo on a big screen. Maybe you could keep a folder of such photos and name it "Photos I would take differently" or something like that. Then, someday, when you get what you really want, you can go back and delete the photo(s) from that folder.

It's funny how sometimes I go back to a photo I took a few years ago and think how differently I would take it if I were to do it now.

I get to watch mine grow as I pass it with the mower and weedeater, lol. The prettiest part of it is in the backyard so when I let the dogs in and out I usually get to see the sun hit it and the white is SO white that you couldn't miss it this year. I think I'm going to split these two and put it in two more places and see how it does.

Thanks Buzz, I'm in TN. We're in a strange, delayed weather pattern this year, right now it's almost 60 outside with bright sunshine (which is refreshing) instead of the 30's and 40's we should be at this time. We had a bad drought over the summer which delayed the turn of the trees, then we had 6" of rain in 2 days which brought on fall color that we have not seen here for years, it was beautiful. Thanks for stopping by.

Whenever I think of Tennessee, I don't particularly think of Nashville as most people would, even though I was for years very involved in folk and old-time music, I think rather of Sgt York (but that may be because I love classic movies).

I'm not in Nashville but I'm sure there are still some hillbilly mountaineers around here somewhere, not many though because the wealthy have taken over the mountain brows so I guess they've moved to the valley ;)

In the movie Sgt York, it's pretty clear that the valued farming land is the "bottom land", although if you're not into farming I guess the views from the peaks is the most valued.
